Instrumentation Control Technician
















SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION

Full-Time Position, Pay Grade 10

Starting Salary: $22.77/hour


Under general supervision, improves and maintains software and hardware components of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, process control, and network communication systems of four treatment plants, pump stations, and related duties, as required. Duties include planning, design, development, implementation, modification, and maintenance of these systems as well as performing data network tasks, as required.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

- Knowledge of operations of SCADA system; uses, operations, troubleshooting, security, and technical updates

- Knowledge of programmable logic control (PLC), how to update firmware, and how to read and write logic

- Knowledge of variable frequency drives (VFD), how to change parameters, how to wire equipment to the VFD, how to set a PID loop (proportional-integral-derivative) within a VFD to maintain appropriate operational levels

- Prefer 3 to 5-years’ experience using SCADA software and Programmable Logic Controllers, or equivalent

- Good understanding of computer systems of all types

- Ability to provide written and verbal updates and presentations in both technical and lay terms, and consistently communicates system status & updates with all staff

- Ability to interpret and respond to information provided by SCADA

- Knowledge of remote terminal units (RTU), how to write a database, how to change parameters, and how to install, wire, and troubleshoot

- Knowledge of SCADA communication using wireless, fiber, coaxial or wired media

- Associates degree preferred in electronics technology, instrumentation or related filed /other training and experience may qualify

- Valid Arkansas Driver's License

APPLICANTS MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO WORK WELL WITH SUPERVISORS, DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Operates/Monitors and maintains the SCADA system (Ignition) for the Utility - Serves as the primary contact for the Pump Maintenance SCADA system. Responsible for a wide variety of process automation system (PAS) software and hardware components utilized for monitoring and control of the treatment and pump station facilities. - Assists in the installation and setup of new SCADA equipment - Maintains and updates the SCADA system to insure uninterrupted, safe, reliable, and efficient operations within Pump Maintenance operations

- Establishes short term and long-term objectives for SCADA operations and coordinates with the management team/operational personnel to meet their needs and goals - Assigns tasks, monitors progress, and provides direction as needed to improve overall SCADA operations quality

- Installation and construction upgrades to equipment and SCADA systems - Assists Maintenance Mechanics by installing minor connections for new/existing pumps - Installs, programs, inspects, calibrates, maintains, operates, troubleshoots, repairs and adjusts various electric, electronic, and pneumatic devices, including PLC and SCADA systems.

- Interprets oral and written instructions, specifications, wiring diagrams and codes - Coordinates with Maintenance Mechanics and Electricians while performing electrical installations - Investigates, evaluates, and recommends hardware, software, or service required to repair, replace, enhance, update or improve the SCADA environment

- Keeps maintenance records and prepares labor and materials estimates - Performs other related duties as assigned

- Performs PLC Circuit Troubleshooting
