North Little Rock Wastewater

Maintenance & Construction

Welcome to the North Little Rock Wastewater Maintenance and Construction Department – the driving force behind the efficient and dependable management of our extensive wastewater infrastructure. As a vital component of our commitment to public health and environmental integrity, our Maintenance and Construction Department is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of our sewer pipelines.

Our team of dedicated employees is equipped to handle every aspect of our wastewater collection system, the network of pipes and manholes that transports wastewater from houses and businesses to our treatment plants. From operating heavy cleaning equipment that clears our pipes of debris to undertaking construction and repairs that ensure the longevity of our infrastructure–their expertise covers it all. Their relentless pursuit of excellence ensures that our communities remain free from disruptions arising from inadequate wastewater infrastructure management. Through their diligent efforts, our M & C Department guarantees the seamless flow of wastewater, safeguarding the health and well-being of all who call North Little Rock and its surrounding areas home.

Asset Management

In order to efficiently manage hundreds of miles of pipes and tens of thousands of manholes, we use the asset management software CityWorks. CityWorks stores data on pipe and manhole characteristics, automates maintenance scheduling, and tracks work orders and maintenance activities in real time. CityWorks also integrates with our GIS system to provide field crews with precise location data.

Construction and Repairs

The M&C Department upkeeps NLRW’s 725 miles of sewer lines–enough pipeline to stretch from North Little Rock to Minneapolis! Our three sewer line repair crews perform both open-cut installations and point repairs.

Our manhole crew tests, repairs, and rehabilitates our over 18,000 manholes to prevent Infiltration and Inflow (I&I). I&I occurs when precipitation and ground water seeps into the wastewater system. The clean water can overload the sewer system, causing Sanity Sewer Overflows.

Cleaning

Our Maintenance and Construction Department has 5 Vac-Cons, pipe cleaning trucks. They use one of two cleaning methods, jetting or vacuuming, depending on the conditions in and around the pipe. Jetting is essentially a pressure wash; water pumped through a high-pressure hose and nozzle breaks up debris in the pipe. Vacuuming removes debris via a specialized industrial vacuum. Pipes are cleaned on a routine schedule, with the goal of cleaning all pipes in the system every five years.

After-Hours Emergencies

The M & C Department operates our “trouble truck.” The trouble truck is on call 24/7 to address sewer system emergencies around the clock. The Maintenance and Construction Department ensures that our sewer system is dependable and clear of obstruction, protecting our community and our environment from Sanitary Sewer Overflows.

Call (501) 945-7186. Crews are available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day to address emergency sewer situations.
