Engineering

Discover the heart of efficient wastewater management in North Little Rock Wastewater's Engineering Department. Our multifaceted team boasts engineering expertise that underpins a diverse array of functions crucial to our operations.

Holistic Management

Within our Engineering Department, we oversee a spectrum of responsibilities extending beyond traditional engineering. Our dynamic team executes NLRW's engineering functions. Our responsibilities encompass the sanitary sewer collection system's layout, the Geographic Information System (GIS), and the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). We are the reliable pillars supporting customers, plumbers, developers, and consulting engineers, providing them with indispensable resources such as maps, as-built plans, and more. Our scope extends to sewer service line permitting, inspection, and the pivotal service line assistance program.

Engineering Expertise

The crux of our responsibilities lies in engineering prowess. We undertake the design, bidding, management, and inspection of renewal projects aimed at revitalizing the aging sanitary sewer pipes within NLRW's network. Our team meticulously designs and inspects in-house collection system improvements, ensuring operational efficacy. Seamless collaboration with planning departments across jurisdictions, such as ARDOT and Central Arkansas Water, guarantees compliance of new construction with current NLRW standards. We liaise closely with consultant engineers to review and approve capital improvement projects and improvements projects funded by developers. Coordinating with ARDOT for permits and project reviews ensures public safety where roads and sewer lines intersect. We also offer engineering support to all NLRW departments, extending our expertise wherever needed.

Empowering Efficiency: GIS and CMMS

Our Engineering Department is the nucleus of our Geographic Information System (GIS) and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) activities. GIS serves as the bedrock for our comprehensive geospatial database, housing a detailed map of our wastewater collection system. This map acts as the foundation for our hydraulic modeling efforts. CMMS centralizes maintenance operations. It streamlines work order management, preventive maintenance scheduling, and meticulous recording and reporting of maintenance endeavors. Our GIS and CMMS seamlessly operate across office, cloud, and mobile domains, enabling us to stay responsive and adaptable.

Empowering Initiatives: Permits, Inspections, and Assistance

Our Engineering Department takes charge of all sewer service line permits, facilitating a smooth process for plumbers and homeowners involved in installations, repairs, or replacements. These permits are prerequisites to work on sewer service lines, ensuring public health and safety. Our visionary Service Line Assistance Program reflects our commitment to community well-being by aiding customers with repair or replacement of failing service lines beneath public streets.

Ensuring Resilience: Sewer Line Inspections

Gravity pipes are inspected using Closed-Circuit Televising (CCTV) technology. A crew equipped with a specialized CCTV truck drives a pipe crawler equipped with a light and a camera down the pipe, allowing us to identify the causes of sewer issues without having to dig. By televising our pipes regularly, we proactively identify problems and take actions to prevent Sanity Sewer Overflows.
