North Little Rock Wastewater
Pollution Prevention Measures
At North Little Rock Wastewater, our commitment to environmental stewardship extends beyond treatment – it encompasses proactive pollution prevention. We've made it our mission to not only meet regulatory standards for treated effluent discharge but to actively collaborate across departments to minimize the occurrence of Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs). Here's how we're working together to protect our environment.
Holistic Approach to SSO Prevention
We understand that preventing SSOs requires a comprehensive, team-driven approach. It's not just about individual efforts but the collective commitment of various departments. Our collaborative strategy involves multiple teams pooling their expertise to tackle the issue from different angles.
Engineering Excellence
Our Engineering Department plays a pivotal role in this endeavor. They're the designers behind the plans to rehabilitate around 68,000 linear feet of small diameter pipelines (ranging from 6" to 18") annually. By doing so, we're aligning with the EPA's directive to replace or rehabilitate two percent of our sewer system each year. These efforts not only prevent potential SSOs but also ensure the longevity of our infrastructure.
Dedicated Collection System Maintenance
Our Collection System Maintenance Department contributes significantly by annually cleaning approximately 1.5 million feet of sewer lines. This proactive maintenance prevents blockages and build-ups that could lead to overflows. By keeping the sewer lines flowing smoothly, we're reducing the chances of environmental contamination.
Reliable Pump Maintenance
Ensuring the seamless operation of our 72 pumping stations falls under the purview of our Pump Maintenance Department. Their consistent efforts play a crucial role in mitigating SSOs. By keeping the pumping stations operational, we're preventing backups and maintaining the integrity of our collection system.
At North Little Rock Wastewater, pollution prevention is a shared responsibility. By integrating our efforts, we're not only safeguarding our environment but also fostering a culture of sustainability that benefits our community for years to come. Join us in this journey to protect our environment and create a brighter future for all.
A Unified Commitment
The beauty of our pollution prevention approach lies in its unity. Each department's contribution, from Engineering to Maintenance, creates a seamless network dedicated to environmental preservation. Through ongoing collaboration and innovation, we're not only adhering to regulations but actively enhancing the quality of our community's waterways.
